Privacy basics
Patient details never go into Relay. What not to type, how case codes work, and what Relay checks for you.

In short
- Relay is for shifts and tasks, not a medical record. Never type a patient’s name, ID number, phone number or date of birth into it.
- Refer to a patient by a case code such as
A-12. Your clinic matches the code to the patient in its own records. - Relay refuses text that looks like patient information, but it can’t recognise names. Keeping names out is up to you.
Why Relay holds no patient details
Relay coordinates the team: who is on which shift, and what needs doing. Everything in it is seen by the whole team, may appear in notifications, and may be read by Claude if someone has connected it. So it is built to work without knowing who any patient is.
- Emails from Relay never contain task text. They only say there’s something new and link back to Relay.
- Events from Google Calendar keep only the date, the tag and a link back to the appointment. Never the title, names or notes. See What Relay keeps.
- What Claude reads leaves Relay and is sent to Anthropic to answer you. See Who can connect.
What never to type
Not in a task, a reason, a template, a protocol, an event or anywhere else in Relay:
- Names, nicknames or initials that identify a patient.
